….In which our intrepid psychic heroine finds herself surrounded by anxious barking dogs in her neighborhood, at her office, and at church. Musingly, she ponders the message from the Universe….
And then the other noises start.
The smoke alarm in the office next door with the dead battery. Beep. Beep. Beep. All day.
The piercing beeps on the auto-dialer that she used while volunteering at the phone bank the night before the state primary.
The noises made by her children who, adorable as they may be, can produce sounds that actually defy categorization as “human”. Ironically, their comedy routines and the sound effects included seemed to be intended toward a) creating deafness in those around them, or b) a contest to see who could make all the dogs in the neighborhood start howling.
And as I write this, the car alarm that just went off on the street. I only wish I was joking.
The common thread: loud, often high-pitched vibrations at high volume, repeated endlessly.
As I sort through this, I am reminded of my friend and colleague Claire Houston’s tale of a client she had years back. This particular client would arrive for her atunement session and within five minutes, the entire neighborhood of dogs would erupt in barking and howling. Only for this client, and for the entire session. Then they would stop. And it just so happened that this particular client was struggling with major control issues in her life.
I am also thinking about my dear friend in San Diego, who told me just last week that the dogs don’t bother her that much anymore. She knows she’s hearing them, but she’s transmuted the message from one of annoyance to one of “go within go within go within”. She says when she’s feeling peaceful, she doesn’t notice them as much. And when she does discover she’s aggravated by them, she thanks them for the reminder that she’s simply aggravated, and goes to work on that.
I am also thinking about the emergency broadcast system. Now that’s an annoying noise. Who doesn’t know this by heart: “This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. The broadcasters of your area in voluntary cooperation with the FCC and other authorities have developed this system to keep you informed in the event of an emergency. If this had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed to tune to one of the broadcast stations in your area.”
We look to the outer environment when we forget that we are powerful creators. We forget that powerlessness is a choice. We forget that we are creating our lives every second. We forget we have choices.
And when we turn within, when we refuse to let people, places, or things define us, we see that power. We usually have to feel a tremendous amount of emotion first, but when that is thoroughly done, we discover that we have been anchored in light the whole time.
We discover the Universe is kind, loving, and that our vision outward was skewed.
It all points within, all of it. And we know this, but we forget. The minute we give our power away to anything outside of ourselves, it has the power to distress us. If we transform our inner environment, our world adjusts to fit our new creation.
Thank you noise. For reminding me: This is a test. This is only a test.
Nothing is an actual emergency.
